Hyundai Accent Valves
We source valves for every Accent generation sold in South Africa, then check the fit against your VIN before it leaves the warehouse

What Are Hyundai Accent Valves?
Engine valves are the intake and exhaust poppet valves in your Hyundai's cylinder head that let air in and exhaust out. On 1.6 CRDi diesel and 1.6 T-GDi petrol engines, bent valves almost always follow a timing chain or belt failure. Burnt exhaust valves come from overheating or a leaking head gasket.
Signs You Need New Valves
Accent generations and valves — the short version
The Accent reached South Africa as X3, LC, MC and RB, and that alone changes what fits. The Accent ran for so long in South Africa that the same name covers four distinct platforms — the change from the Alpha to the Gamma petrol family is the single biggest fitment dividing line.
Engine families fitted to the SA-market Accent:
Hyundai used several engine families in parallel rather than in sequence, so two cars of the same model year can carry completely different internals. The engine code stamped on the block is what a parts desk works from, not the badge on the boot.
Send us the engine code off the block or VIN plate, and whether the car is petrol or CRDi diesel with your enquiry and we will confirm the correct valves against your car before anything is dispatched.
In South Africa the Accent is mostly one of the deepest used-parts pools of any Hyundai in the country, which is exactly why sourcing to the correct generation matters more here than on a newer car. That is the wear pattern we stock and source against.
Accent Valves: Common Questions
Will valves from another Accent fit mine?
Not automatically. The Accent sold in South Africa as X3, LC, MC and RB, and the Accent ran for so long in South Africa that the same name covers four distinct platforms — the change from the Alpha to the Gamma petrol family is the single biggest fitment dividing line. Send us the generation code off your VIN plate and we will confirm it either way before anything is dispatched.
Can you source valves for the Accent if local stock is dry?
Usually, yes. The Accent the RB generation is a close relative of the Kia Rio of the same era, which gives us a second catalogue to search when Hyundai-listed stock runs out. We will tell you what we are quoting rather than leaving you to guess.
Burnt valve or bent valve — they are different problems
Burnt is gradual: the sealing face erodes, compression drops on that cylinder and you get a persistent misfire. Bent is sudden and mechanical, and it means the pistons have met the valves. Same part, entirely different cause, and the diagnosis route is different too.
What are the symptoms of a burnt valve?
A consistent misfire on one cylinder, low compression on that cylinder under test, power down and a rough idle. A burnt exhaust valve often whistles under load. This is one to confirm with a test rather than a hunch, because either way the head is coming off and that is not a job to start on a guess.
What bends valves on a Hyundai engine?
Almost always a timing chain or belt failure — once timing goes out of sync the pistons meet the valves. On the 1.6 CRDi and 1.6 T-GDi engines a stretched chain jumping teeth is the usual route there. The practical lesson is that a cold-start rattle is worth investigating the week you hear it, not the month.
Can I check for burnt valves without removing the head?
Yes, with two tests. A compression test finds the low cylinder; a leak-down test then tells you where the leak goes — hissing at the exhaust means an exhaust valve, at the intake means an intake valve, bubbles in the coolant means the head gasket. Both need a warm engine to be worth anything.
What does valve work cost on a Hyundai?
In practice a single valve becomes a head-off inspection, so labour dominates and a parts-only figure would mislead you. Our supplier network stocks Hyundai valves and head components. Request a free quote with your engine code and we will price a full head refurbishment rather than the valve on its own.
