The Elantra sold in South Africa as J2 Avante, XD, HD, MD and AD, and early SA cars wear the Avante name and later ones the Elantra badge for what is effectively the same lineage — the generation code, not the badge, is what a parts desk works from. We work backwards from the VIN: generation first, then engine family, then whether the car is pre- or post-facelift within that generation. The airbag module and clockspring behind it have to match as well, which is the part people forget until the light stays on.

Wheel balance first, then tyre condition — those two account for most of it. If the shake survives a balance, look at stabiliser links, anti-roll bar bushes and the inner CV joint. An inner CV joint is a common culprit once balancing has been ruled out, and it is easy to miss because it mimics a wheel-balance problem almost exactly.

Warped front discs, almost every time. Stop-start traffic and repeated heat cycling do it to i20, Accent and Tucson front rotors in particular. We measure disc thickness and runout before quoting, because a skim on the lathe sometimes solves what looks like a new-discs job.

Technically yes, but the airbag stays live until the battery has been disconnected for at least 10 minutes, and the module needs handling properly. We push people towards a workshop for airbag work — accidental deployment is genuinely dangerous and replacement modules are not cheap.
