Hyundai H1 Crankshafts
We source crankshafts for every H1 generation sold in South Africa, then check the fit against your VIN before it leaves the warehouse

What Are Hyundai H1 Crankshafts?
The crankshaft converts piston motion into rotation — it's the central rotating shaft of every Hyundai engine from the 1.2 Kappa to the 2.0 CRDi. The crank sensor on the snout or bellhousing feeds rpm and position data to the ECU; without it the engine won't start.
Signs You Need New Crankshafts
Getting the right crankshafts for your H1 first time
Ordering crankshafts for a H1 starts with the generation: the original Starex, then the TQ iLoad, iMax and Grand Starex.Panel van, bus and people-mover bodies on the same TQ base take different rear-end, glass and trim parts, so tell us the body style, not just the model.
Engine families fitted to the SA-market H1:
Hyundai used several engine families in parallel rather than in sequence, so two cars of the same model year can carry completely different internals. The engine code stamped on the block is what a parts desk works from, not the badge on the boot.
Send us the engine code off the block or VIN plate, and whether the car is petrol or CRDi diesel with your enquiry and we will confirm the correct crankshafts against your car before anything is dispatched.
In South Africa the H1 is mostly shuttle, tour and staff-transport work, which means very high annual mileage and a strong bias towards diesel injection, turbo and clutch components. That is the wear pattern we stock and source against.
H1 Crankshafts: Common Questions
Will crankshafts from another H1 fit mine?
Not automatically. The H1 sold in South Africa as the original Starex, then the TQ iLoad, iMax and Grand Starex, and panel van, bus and people-mover bodies on the same TQ base take different rear-end, glass and trim parts, so tell us the body style, not just the model. Send us the generation code off your VIN plate and we will confirm it either way before anything is dispatched.
Can you source crankshafts for the H1 if local stock is dry?
Usually, yes. The H1 no Kia equivalent — the H1 is its own commercial platform, which gives us a second catalogue to search when Hyundai-listed stock runs out. We will tell you what we are quoting rather than leaving you to guess.
Do you mean the crankshaft or the crank sensor?
This is worth settling first, because the two jobs are not remotely comparable. The sensor is a bolt-on part that ages and corrodes; SA retail runs roughly R65 to R550 through our supplier network. The crankshaft itself is an engine-out rebuild. People search for one and need the other more often than you would think.
What does a failing crank sensor do?
The engine cranks but will not start when hot, then fires up again once it has cooled — that hot-stall-then-restart pattern is close to diagnostic on its own. Add random stalling, intermittent misfires and codes P0335 or P0336. On Getz and i20 1.4 CRDi cars, corrosion at the sensor plug is a common cause.
Can I keep driving with a faulty crank sensor?
Not with any confidence — the ECU needs crank position to fire the injectors and ignition, so the engine can cut at any moment. That is a stranding rather than a limp home. Get it done before it picks its own time and place.
What does a crank sensor cost in South Africa?
SA retail runs roughly R65 to R550 depending on model and brand, confirmed across our supplier network, and labour is usually under an hour. Send your VIN rather than the model name — sensor fitment follows the engine family, and a wrong-part return is the most common avoidable delay we see.
What actually kills a crankshaft?
Very little, directly. The crank is one of the toughest components in the engine, so damage to it is nearly always downstream of something else — oil starvation, overheating, or a rod bearing that let go first. If the crank is genuinely damaged, the engine has usually already made the decision for you.
Tell us which H1 you have
The H1 sold here as the original Starex, then the TQ iLoad, iMax and Grand Starex, and they do not share one parts list. Give us the generation code and we will do the rest.
