Hyundai H1 EGR Valve
Whether your H1 is an early or late build, we match the egr valve to your derivative rather than to the badge

What Are Hyundai H1 EGR Valve?
The EGR valve recirculates a measured amount of exhaust gas back into the intake of your Hyundai, lowering combustion temperature and NOx emissions. On 1.6 CRDi diesels shared across Atos, Getz, i20, Accent, Sonata and Creta, carbon blockage of the EGR is the textbook Hyundai fault — we see one a week.
Signs You Need New EGR Valve
H1 generations and egr valve — the short version
Does one egr valve listing cover every H1?
No. Ordering egr valve for a H1 starts with the generation: the original Starex, then the TQ iLoad, iMax and Grand Starex.Panel van, bus and people-mover bodies on the same TQ base take different rear-end, glass and trim parts, so tell us the body style, not just the model.
Which engine is in my H1?
SA-market cars were sold with 2.4 petrol on selected Grand Starex derivatives, D4CB 2.5 CRDi and 2.5 TD on the earlier Starex. The code stamped on the block settles it — the badge on the boot does not.
What do you need from me to quote egr valve?
The model year and engine code, and which section has failed. Catalytic converters and sensors are emissions-standard specific, so a part from a different market or a different production year of the same Hyundai may physically fit and still not satisfy the engine management.
In South Africa the H1 is mostly shuttle, tour and staff-transport work, which means very high annual mileage and a strong bias towards diesel injection, turbo and clutch components. That is the wear pattern we stock and source against.
Before You Order H1 EGR Valve
Will egr valve from another H1 fit mine?
Not automatically. The H1 sold in South Africa as the original Starex, then the TQ iLoad, iMax and Grand Starex, and panel van, bus and people-mover bodies on the same TQ base take different rear-end, glass and trim parts, so tell us the body style, not just the model. Send us the generation code off your VIN plate and we will confirm it either way before anything is dispatched.
How do you check egr valve actually fits a H1?
We work backwards from the VIN: generation first, then engine family, then whether the car is pre- or post-facelift within that generation. On the H1 specifically, panel van, bus and people-mover bodies on the same TQ base take different rear-end, glass and trim parts, so tell us the body style, not just the model.
How much does a Hyundai EGR valve cost in South Africa?
Real SA retail — EGR valves run from R1,290 to R5,096, with the common unit around R1,725. The 1.6 CRDi unit fitting Atos, Getz, i20, Accent, Sonata and Creta is the volume part. Send your VIN for a precise quote.
What are the symptoms of a blocked EGR valve?
Rough idle, black diesel smoke, slow cold starts, P0401 fault codes and limp mode at cruise. Hyundai 1.6 and 2.0 CRDi engines carbon up the EGR at around 100,000-150,000 km — a textbook brand fault documented across every CRDi forum.
Can a Hyundai EGR valve be cleaned instead of replaced?
Yes — an early-stage blockage can be cleaned with EGR-specific solvent and a wire brush, buying 20,000-40,000 km. A seized stepper motor or failed position sensor means replacement. We always quote both options side by side.
Why is my Hyundai diesel slow to start?
A blocked EGR is a leading cause on 1.6 CRDi and 2.0 CRDi — the carbon restricts airflow and the ECU struggles with the mixture. Glow plugs, fuel pressure and injector leak-back are the other usual suspects. Start with EGR inspection first.
How much does it cost to replace a Hyundai EGR valve?
Parts from R1,290 upwards at SA pricing, plus one to two hours of labour. Cleaning is cheaper but shorter-lived. Removal also gives us access to check the inlet manifold for carbon — often needs a decoke on high-mileage CRDis.
Let us confirm the egr valve before you buy
Photos of the old part and your VIN are usually all we need. We confirm the egr valve against your H1 before quoting, not after.
