Hyundai i30 Flex Pipe
Flex Pipe to suit the Hyundai i30, cross-referenced against OEM specification and dispatched countrywide

What Are Hyundai i30 Flex Pipe?
The flex pipe is a braided stainless section in your Hyundai's front exhaust that absorbs engine movement — without it, every rocker-mount shudder would crack the pipe. Common on Getz, i20, Accent, Creta and Sonata TUi/CRDi systems. Corrosion or over-flexing are the two reasons they fail in SA.
Signs You Need New Flex Pipe
Before you order flex pipe for a i30
Does one flex pipe listing cover every i30?
No. i30 owners are usually surprised by how much turns on the generation code — FD, GD and PD all sold here.N Line and standard derivatives differ in brakes, suspension and bumper mouldings — the badge on the boot changes the parts list, not just the trim.
Which engine is in my i30?
SA-market cars were sold with Beta II 2.0 (FD), Nu 1.8 (GD), 1.4 T-GDi (PD N Line) and U-line 1.6 CRDi on selected derivatives. The code stamped on the block settles it — the badge on the boot does not.
What do you need from me to quote flex pipe?
The model year and engine code, and which section has failed. Catalytic converters and sensors are emissions-standard specific, so a part from a different market or a different production year of the same Hyundai may physically fit and still not satisfy the engine management.
In South Africa the i30 is mostly bought by drivers who wanted a more solid-feeling hatch, and now aging into the independent aftermarket where the Kia cross-reference becomes genuinely useful. That is the wear pattern we stock and source against.
Hyundai i30 Flex Pipe — Questions We Get Asked
Will flex pipe from another i30 fit mine?
Not automatically. The i30 sold in South Africa as FD, GD and PD, and N Line and standard derivatives differ in brakes, suspension and bumper mouldings — the badge on the boot changes the parts list, not just the trim. Send us the generation code off your VIN plate and we will confirm it either way before anything is dispatched.
Which engines did the South African i30 come with?
SA-market cars ran Beta II 2.0 (FD), Nu 1.8 (GD), 1.4 T-GDi (PD N Line), U-line 1.6 CRDi on selected derivatives. The code stamped on the block is what we work from — the badge on the boot is not reliable on its own.
What is the flex pipe and why does it fail first?
It is the braided, corrugated section just behind the manifold or downpipe that absorbs engine movement so the rest of the exhaust does not have to. Because it is the part doing the flexing, it is the part that fatigues — on Getz and Accent CRDi cars it is reliably the first exhaust section to go.
What does a failed flex pipe sound like?
A loud blow or tick that gets worse when you lift off the throttle, exhaust smell reaching the cabin, and vibration you can feel through the floor. Underneath, the braided mesh visibly frays before it fully lets go, so it usually gives you warning if anyone looks.
Can a flex pipe be welded rather than replaced?
Once the mesh has torn or the inner corrugated core has cracked, a weld rarely holds — it fails again at the weld boundary within weeks, and you have paid twice. We cut the old section out and weld a fresh flex in. The replacement cost is modest enough that the repair is false economy.
What does a flex pipe cost in South Africa?
Generic flex pipes run R190 to R850 through our supplier network — the budget end being mild steel and the top end stainless — and Hyundai-specific units are also available. Labour is one to two hours for the cut-and-weld. Ask for a fitted quote rather than a parts price.
My exhaust is vibrating. Is it the flex?
It is the first thing to check, because with no flex absorbing engine movement the vibration goes straight into the system and the body. Failed engine mounts and a loose heat shield produce something similar, so get all three looked at on the ramp — the flex inspection itself takes about two minutes.
Not sure which flex pipe fits your i30?
Send us your VIN or the engine code off the block and our Hyundai desk will cross-check the correct flex pipe for your exact i30 derivative.
