Play with a knock means an outer tie rod, an inner CV joint or a lower ball joint — the test narrows it to three, and a hoist inspection settles which. Is a worn tie rod safe to drive on?

Does the car need aligning afterwards?
Always. The tie rod sets the toe angle, so disturbing it means a four-wheel alignment to reset. Skip it and the new tyres are scrubbed out within weeks and the car pulls constantly. Build the alignment into the quote from the start rather than treating it as optional.
