Disconnect the battery, pop the steering-column shrouds, unplug the stalk harness and undo the single retaining clip. Swap the unit, reconnect and test every stalk function before refitting the shrouds. Airbag work must stay clear.

Hazards use a direct bypass circuit, so they function even when the stalk switch is dead. A working hazard button with dead indicators points squarely at the column stalk or its connector, not the bulbs or the body control module.
