The Tiburon sold in South Africa as the SA-market coupe in 2.0 and 2.7 V6 form, and the coupe body panels, glass and lighting are Tiburon-only, even where the engine and gearbox parts interchange with the Elantra of the same period. Burnt is gradual: the sealing face erodes, compression drops on that cylinder and you get a persistent misfire. Bent is sudden and mechanical, and it means the pistons have met the valves. Same part, entirely different cause, and the diagnosis route is different too.

A consistent misfire on one cylinder, low compression on that cylinder under test, power down and a rough idle. A burnt exhaust valve often whistles under load. This is one to confirm with a test rather than a hunch, because either way the head is coming off and that is not a job to start on a guess.

Almost always a timing chain or belt failure — once timing goes out of sync the pistons meet the valves. On the 1.6 CRDi and 1.6 T-GDi engines a stretched chain jumping teeth is the usual route there. The practical lesson is that a cold-start rattle is worth investigating the week you hear it, not the month.

Yes, with two tests. A compression test finds the low cylinder; a leak-down test then tells you where the leak goes — hissing at the exhaust means an exhaust valve, at the intake means an intake valve, bubbles in the coolant means the head gasket. Both need a warm engine to be worth anything.
