Only to the nearest workshop. A dead coil dumps raw petrol into the catalytic converter, which destroys it within a few hundred kilometres. That turns a R600 coil into a R15,000 cat replacement.

OEM coils on Getz, i20 and Accent petrols typically last 90,000-120,000km. High-mileage, short-trip cars or those running old spark plugs fail earlier. Always fit plugs and coils as a matched set to avoid premature failure.
